A Push for Natural Refrigerants

In 2013, there were only about 5,000 natural refrigerant-based light commercial units in the U.S. Today, that number has increased to an impressive 291,000 -- further proof that older refrigerant gases, like R22, are being phased out.

As toxic refrigerants become less widely used, CO2 and hydrocarbons are expected to become the industry standard. For North America in particular, use of these natural refrigerants in light refrigeration units will become the common practice by 2030.

A Push for Natural Refrigerants - CO2 Refrigeration Brooklyn

Paige Dunn, Head of CSR and Sustainability for Red Bull, explains the benefits of switching to natural refrigerants:
We have found that this technology is the best solution for both us and for
our accounts. As early adopters of this technology, we have seen a significant decrease in energy usage. Less harm to the planet while increasing profit to
our accounts' business is clearly a win/win.
