DIY Tips on Commercial Refrigeration Maintenance

The experts of East Coast Refrigeration know just how important commercial refrigeration maintenance is. Performing regular maintenance can help extend the life of your equipment and keep energy costs down. While we urge you to call us for major repairs and service, there are some things you to keep your refrigeration system running smoothly in-between visits. Read on for DIY tips on commercial refrigeration maintenance.

Clean evaporator and condensing coils

Use soap and water to clean your equipment’s evaporator and condensing coils once a month. According to QSR Magazine, while there are coil-cleaner solutions available, “many are corrosive and can be expensive.” Be sure that when you’re cleaning the condenser coils, you’re scrubbing up and down, not side to side.

Wipe down fan blades and motor

You should also clean your machine’s fan blades and motor every 30 days. Food Service Warehouse explains that this should be done “with a soft cloth run over both the motor and the fan blades.” If you think a more thorough clean is necessary, be sure to cover the motor to avoid water damage.

Maintain proper temperatures

Additionally, it’s important to keep your refrigeration unit at a safe temperature to prevent bacterial growth. “If proper sanitation and temperatures are not maintained, microorganisms can grow, affecting the safety and quality of the food products sold in the case,” advises Food Quality magazine.

Why Proper Commercial Refrigeration Maintenance is Important

Proper refrigeration maintenance is vital for keeping your system running up to its full potential. Lack of adequate maintenance can lead to a shorter lifespan of your equipment, increases in energy bills, or worse, system failure. Here are some basic maintenance tips to help increase the life and productivity of your refrigeration system:

  • Keep weeds and trash clear of the areas surrounding your condensing unit. This will ensure proper airflow to and from the system.
  • Clean fan blades occasionally to reduce drag. Have an East Coast Refrigeration  service technician check that the fan motor is operating properly.
  • Monitor refrigerator temperatures and check refrigerant levels.
  • Take out and clean ice machines.
  • Clean evaporator and condensing coils monthly.
  • Reduce energy costs by purchasing strip curtains and make sure all doors are closed properly after use.
  • Adequately seal and replace all cracks and worn gaskets.

By adhering to these simple maintenance pointers, you can avoid problems with your commercial or industrial refrigeration system. A little active care every now and then can save you tons of money on energy and repair bills in the long run.

What Is a Parallel Rack System?

Did you know that you can reduce your energy bills and minimize your impact on the environment by installing a parallel rack refrigeration system? This system is made up of multiple compressors piped parallel to one another. Let’s take a closer look:

Businesses usually invest in parallel rack systems for smooth capacity control. Doing so can reduce the amount of power and energy consumed. Compressors are stored side-by-side inside of a steel rack.

Some benefits of using a parallel rack system include:

  • Energy savings
  • Increased refrigerant efficiency
  • Added reliability
  • Longer lifespan
  • Reduced wear and tear
  • Fewer leaks
Parallel rack refrigeration systems are ideal for businesses in the following industries:

  • Food Service
  • Distribution
  • Wholesale
  • Supermarkets
  • Manufacturing
  • Food Processing
  • Cold Storage
  • Industrial Fisheries
  • Packaged Ice
  • Ice Arenas
To learn more about parallel rack systems available through East Coast Refrigeration, call us today at (631) 249-4556 or visit us on the web. 3 Advantages of Commercial Walk-In Freezers

If you’re in the foodservice industry, you know how important high-quality equipment is to your business’ success. Faulty or low-grade refrigeration appliances reduce the lifespan of food, putting a hole in your pocket. A commercial walk-in freezer, on the other hand, can help extend food’s lifespan. Let’s dig a bit deeper and take a look the many advantages of commercial walk-in freezers.

Extra Space

One of the foremost benefits of a commercial walk-in freezer is the amount of space it offers. Not only does it provide more storage space for food, but it also grants access to multiple people at once. No more crowded workspaces! Furthermore, more freezer space allows restaurant owners to buy food in bulk and benefit from wholesale prices.

Ideal Conditions

Commercial walk-in freezers are designed to maintain and preserve food. With built-in filters constantly purifying the air, food will remain frozen and safe. You just can’t say that for lower-quality refrigeration units.

Less Spoiled Food

Jean Schwab, a senior analyst in the Environmental Protection Agency’s waste division, told NPR that "Food waste is now the No. 1 material that goes into landfills and incinerators." Furthermore, 15 percent of that waste comes from restaurants. Installing a commercial walk-in freezer means you won’t have to deal with and discard of as much spoiled food.

To learn more about walk-in coolers and freezers, visit East Coast Refrigeration on the web or call us at (631) 249-4556. Whether you have or need an 8' X 10' walk in box or a custom 10,000 foot refrigerated warehouse, we provide installation, replacement and repair!
